Wiz Khalifa likes making “different types of songs”.

The rapper’s newest record, Blacc Hollywood, hits US stores August 19.

And the 26-year-old says fans can expect a wide range of sounds on the album, including one track with Nicki Minaj called True Colors, in which the pair put a spin on Cyndi Lauper’s 1986 hit.

“Me, I make different types of songs. Some are for the club, some are for the smokers and some are very inspirational and motivational,” Wiz told MTV News.

“Songs like This Plane and things like that with a message behind it and that’s what True Colors is more down the line of,” he said.

The Black and Yellow rapper, real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, released his debut album in 2006 and became known for hits like Work Hard, Play Hard and Remember You.

And he remains inspired by Nicki, whose album The Pink Print will come out later this year.

“She kills it inspirationally, [and] lyrically. You know how we both do,” he said.

Wiz, known for his laid-back style, recently opened up about how he prepares for performances, telling audiences on US late night show Chelsea Lately he listens to “old-school music” and smokes “a lot of weed” to get ready.

The performer has not hidden his marijuana use, even previously claiming to spend $10,000 a month on the drug in 2010.

“I’m really into what I do just in general. I love music. I love creating and just being around creative people. My team and producers and just my fans always, they’re just driving me to do bigger and better things. That and my family of course,” he said.
