Chris Martin hopes Rihanna will give him a song on her next album.

The Coldplay rocker collaborated with her on Princess of China from his band’s 2011 album Mylo Xyloto.

And currently he’s working overtime to compose a track worthy of the pop star’s new LP.

“I wasn’t necessarily with [Rihanna in the studio], I was working for her. I don’t think she even asked, I just said, ‘please can I try something?’ Chris told New York’s Fresh 102.7 FM radio.

Chris previously told Maxim he was turned away by Beyoncé’s A&R team back in 2010. Despite his incredible success, he’s still not convinced anything he might pen for Rihanna will make it onto her record.

“She has so many amazing people writing for her. It’s like trying to win American Idol, getting a song on Rihanna’s album,” Chris said.

Either way, the crooner is finding the process enjoyable. The star says it’s been nice to switch gears from his usual style of music because it keeps him creative.

“Sometimes as a break from Coldplay stuff I love to go and work on other music,” he explained. “It kind of gives you fresh angles and new ideas.”

Rihanna appeared to announce back in June her eighth album is on its way.

The singer took to Twitter posting a photo of a mixing board with the caption “#R8”, sending fans into a frenzy.

She’s otherwise been quiet about the upcoming record - the first since her 2012 offering, Unapologetic.

MTV News reports rumours of collaborations with Nicki Minaj are already circling.
