On July 3, 1971, Jim Morrison died in a Paris apartment with authorities calling in not suspicious. Because of their finding, no autopsy was performed and the mystery behind what happened to the singer has been popular among conspiracy theorists for years.
In a new interview with MOJO magazine, Marianne Faithfull has claimed that her boyfriend at the time, Jean de Breteuil, was responsible for Morrison's death even though it was accidental.
Faithfull told the magazine that, on the evening of July 3, she was in Paris with her boyfriend, who was a well known heroin dealer, but stayed in the hotel while he went to visit Morrison. "I could intuitively feel trouble. I thought, I'll take a few Tuinal and I won't be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him. I mean I'm sure it was an accident. Poor bastard. The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died. And I didn't know anything about this. Anyway, everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now. Except me."
This new revelation ties in with stories that others told about the evening years after Morrison's death. Danny Sugerman, in his book Wonderland Avenue, said that he talked to Morrison's girlfriend, Pamela Courson, who had told him that, even though she had told the police that the singer wasn't doing drugs he had, in fact, snorted heroin thinking it was cocaine. In the book Nobody Gets Out of Here Alive, Jerry Hopkins said that Alain Ronay and Agnes Varda told him that they arrived at Morrison's apartment where they found out from Courson that the couple had taken heroin which had made Jim sick, including vomiting blood. He went to take a bath and Courson, beleiving he was alright, went to sleep. She awoke to find him unresponsive in the bathtub.
