Iggy Azalea's boyfriend thinks her success is "scaring" people.

The 24-year-old rapper is enjoying a huge amount of triumph with number one hit Fancy and her popular collaboration with Ariana Grande, Problem.

At last month's BET Awards it was thought Nicki Minaj made a dig at the star after emphasising she writes all her own lyrics in her acceptance speech. Nicki, 31, denied she was hinting that Iggy uses a ghostwriter, but her beau Nick Young isn't convinced.

“Iggy is doing big things and that is what is scaring people,” the basketball player told New York Daily News' Confidenti@l column.

“She is going to brush it off. She won’t let it get to her. She is number one — what can you do? She’s at the top right now, so of course they are going to come at you.”

Nicki's speech was shared all over the internet and inspired countless tweets and memes about her "throwing shade" at Iggy. The Super Bass singer brushed the comments off by posting on Twitter that people had simply "put words in" her mouth.

Despite Nicki's denial, Iggy apparently found the incident hard to forget about.

“I had to deal with the aftermath of all that,” Nick explained.

“When she came home and was going through her phones, hearing everybody talking trash about her. I had to be there for her.

“We always hang out and try to get her mind off what is going on out there on the news. “We go roller-skating, to theme parks and Six Flags and try to have a good time and do down-to-earth stuff. We have sweats on, hoodies on at Six Flags, just us two, and you will never know [who we are].”

The sports star added it's not the only thing he has to put up with. The 29-year-old also has to hang around waiting for his girlfriend to prepare for a big night out.

“It takes four or five hours for her to get ready,” he sighed. “I get on the computer and watch TV. For women, it takes them forever. They got to do a lot — hair, make-up, earrings, and they go through four or five outfits."
