Zayn Malik and fiancée Perrie Edwards have not married in secret, his rep confirms.
The One Direction heartthrob sent his fans into a spin on Tuesday after posting a picture to Instagram which showed him wearing a ring on his wedding finger. The speculation led to his spokesperson on Wednesday denying any nuptials have taken place.
“Perrie and Zayn are not married. The picture shows his engagement ring,” the representative explained.
The 21-year-old made his Instagram account public on Tuesday for the first time and fans were quick to delve through his photographs. In the black-and-white image in question, the singer appears topless with the ring on his wedding finger.
“Blah,” he captioned the photo.
Zayn proposed to Little Mix star Perrie last year, with the couple confirming the news in August.
The What Makes You Beautiful singer is rumoured to have splashed out £50,000 on a lavish fairground-themed bash to celebrate her 21st birthday.
“It was incredibly romantic. Zayn and Perrie were really enjoying each other’s company. It shows how in love they still are," a source divulged to British newspaper The Sun.
The young lovebirds were reportedly planning a 2015 wedding. But after One Direction announced their On The Road Again Tour, which kicks off next February, they have had to put their arrangements on hold.
“But after that, once it starts dying down a little bit touring-wise, we’ll be able to get into it,” Perrie told British newspaper Metro back in May.
