Cheryl Cole’s dad confirms she “deliberately” kept her new marriage private.

The 31-year-old singer confirmed she married French entrepreneur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versin in an Instagram post at the weekend, sharing a picture of her wedding ring.

And her father Garry Tweedy, 56, claims very few people close to her knew of the nuptials.

“She has left it for a while before making it public because she just wanted it to be kept completely private,” he told British newspaper The Mirror.

“I knew about it but Cheryl did that quite deliberately. And it worked.”

But there are few, if any hard feelings from the star’s loved ones about her decision to keep the wedding a secret.

Cheryl’s stepfather Anthony Leighton says everyone is elated she’s a newlywed.

“I am over the moon for her. If she’s happy then I’m happy. It is a right surprise. She’s lovely and I am really happy for her,” Anthony said.

“I found out through Facebook, she doesn’t bother with us much. She phones her sister and she phones her brother sometimes but what we hear is just back and forward.

“This is a bit of a surprise for everyone. I’m pleased for her.”

Cheryl is said to have been dating Jean-Bernard for three months before they exchanged vows.

The Mirror previously reported, the couple tied the knot on a beach in Mustique last Monday and invited only four guests.

The star’s mother, Joan, and assistant Lily England were reportedly among those present.

Cheryl was previously married to footballer Ashley Cole, but their four-year union dissolved in 2010 after he allegedly cheated on her.
