Adam Levine feels "so blessed" to have overcome his problems in the past.

The Maroon 5 frontman has marked his big screen debut in romantic drama Begin Again as Dave, a musician who lets the fame get to his head after he lands a major record deal.

After having gone through a similar process with his award-winning band, Adam can relate to Dave's struggles as he comes to terms with the limelight.

"This guy was me at a certain point. He's about to be lost and is losing it," Adam explained to People.

"Granted, it wasn't the same experience. But all of a sudden you have much more at your disposal - girls, money, alcohol, whatever. Your vices become magnified. You get to the edge of a cliff, and if you jump off you're screwed. I've been so blessed. Thank God for my family and friends who supported me."

Begin Again also stars Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo as singer-songwriter Greta and disgraced music producer Dan. Despite acting opposite massive names, Adam didn't feel any pressure.

"I wouldn't say I was nervous. I was actually really excited," he smiled. "I had a lot to prove, so I had to pretend like I knew what I was doing. I was also really busy, so I didn't have time to stew in my own insecurities."

Away from the camera the 35-year-old star is planning his nuptials to model Behati Prinsloo, who he is set to tie the knot with soon. Adam, who dated a string of famous beauties before the Victoria's Secret Angel, briefly spoke about organising the big day.

"We're doing our thing. It's not like we're that involved. We're involved in that we're doing what we want to do, when we want to do it, with people we want to do it with," he explained. "Can you imagine me as a planner? I'm probably going through more than you think and less than you think as well. We're pretty detached from the process. We just want to do it. It won't be typical, I can tell you that."
