Robin Thicke's new album is all about taking responsibility for his past mistakes.
The Blurred Lines singer shot to the top of music charts the world over last year with his catchy pop tune, which featured vocals from Pharrell Williams and T.I., but his latest musical offering is much more sombre.
Since become an international star Robin has seen his marriage to actress Paula Patton, his high school sweetheart, break down. For the songwriter, penning a record called Paula is the answer to winning the actress back.
“The album is what happens when you lose the love of your life and you try to figure out in your head like, ‘How am I gonna move on?’” Robin explained to radio station Hot 97. “Because we weren’t together anymore, I had so much that I still wanted to apologise for and take responsibility for and that’s what the album is about.”
While 2013's summer anthem Blurred Lines may have been a pop hit, it received a string of backlash for its sexually suggestive lyrics and use of topless models in the video.
During a recent Twitter Q&A for VH1 Robin found himself the subject of angry social media users who disagreed with his apparent view of women.
“Last year was really just kind of a blur in many ways, no pun intended,” Robin continued to Hot 97. “Everything happened so fast and you don’t realise all the things that come with it. I changed and I got a little too selfish and a little too greedy and a little to full of myself. At this point in our relationship, the only reason we’re not together is because of the choices I made.”
While he didn't elaborate on what he'd done, rumours circulated last year that 37-year-old Robin had been unfaithful to Paula following a photo that emerged seemingly showing him groping a fan's behind.
“She hasn’t heard it. She’s only heard a few songs. And I don’t think she wants to hear it right now. I can’t speak for her, but I think space is an important part of any healing process," he admitted.
