Idina Menzel’s estranged husband Taye Diggs debuted his new girlfriend at the BET Awards.
The Frozen star and her actor ex called it quits on their 10-year marriage late last year.
And it appears Taye has already moved on, making his first public appearance with new girlfriend, model Amanza Smith Brown, on the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.
Taye and Idina met in 1995 while performing in the original cast of Broadway’s RENT.
Reflecting on their decision to part ways, the 43-year-old star admitted he predicted an uproar would follow the announcement of their marital split.
“I’d be lying if I said there weren’t times when I thought, Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split],” he told Redbook magazine earlier this month.
“There weren’t a lot of couples like us in the theater community and I know there aren’t a lot of performers as talented as she is… and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing,” he said.
Idina meanwhile isn’t enjoying looking for love now that she’s newly single, especially with the former couple’s four-year-old son to think about.
“It all sucks,” the she recently told US radio show Valentine in the Morning, explaining, "I don’t want to keep introducing him to people and having him form bonds and then take ‘em away, you know. It’s bad enough his mom and dad are getting divorced.”
Idina isn’t a stranger to divorce, however.
"I went through it when I was 15 years old," she added. "I keep telling myself, because I feel so badly for him, it's better that he's four-and-a half than when he's 15. He has two parents that love him very much and we want to be great moms and dads. At 15 I was too aware, I thought I was an adult, and I got in the middle of everything and I took on the stress for both of them.”
