Shakira thinks she’s already got “what’s essential” in her romantic relationship.

The 37-year-old Colombian singer shares 17-month-old son Milan with professional soccer player Gerard Piqué.

The couple aren’t planning to get married at this time and Shakira doesn’t care about tying the knot, as she is happy with the way things are.

“We already have what’s essential, you know?” she mused during an interview with Glam Belleza Latina magazine. “We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby. I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I’m ever going to get married, he’s the one.”

Shakira has been working in the entertainment industry since 1990.

If she had the chance to advise her younger self, she’d tell youthful Shakira to have more confidence.

“People in this industry want to tell you what’s best for you. And it’s important to ask for advice, but you have to follow your instincts,” she explained. “Don’t ever underestimate your power to shape your future—you are more powerful than you think.”

Shakira won’t compromise on her principles just because someone else thinks she should.

The star isn’t at all concerned about what critics say about her body.

“Truthfully—[I eat] whatever I want. I don’t believe in depriving myself or being a slave to diets,” she said. “I generally eat healthy, but I indulge too. And when I have to, for a video or a performance, I pull back a little. But it’s all about balance.”
