Alana Haim had all the Spice Girls "dolls and weird lollipops" when she was little.

The 22-year-old musician calls herself Baby Haim, which is a reference to her love of the '90s girlband as well as her status as the youngest in her family.

She always wanted to be Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, when she was growing up and was thrilled when she realised she had a chance to fulfil her dream.

"The reason why I’m Baby Haim is because I was the biggest Spice Girls fan growing up. I always wanted to be Baby Spice growing up, but I didn’t have blonde hair," she told time.com. "When I was 16, one of my friends was like, 'You’re Baby Haim, you’re the baby of the family!' and I was like, 'Oh my God, dream come true, I can be like Baby Spice.'

They were the first band I was a fanatic [for]. It was Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child, my two go-to bands. I had all the dolls, all the weird lollipops, all the movies. I was a f**king huge Spice Girls fan, and I am not afraid to say it."

The Spice Girls were known for their choreographed dance routines, which could be one of the reasons why Alana and her sisters Danielle and Este chose to show off their moves in their If I Could Change Your Mind video. The siblings love dancing, although having to learn a routine was trickier than they anticipated.

"[Veteran choreographer] Fatima [Robinson] definitely f**king whipped our asses into shape for sure. We only had three days to choreograph it and perform," she recalled. "We really wanted to be actual dancers. I mean, we’re not actual dancers - we quickly realised that after day one."

Haim have a reputation for being laidback and Alana explained they don't get up to anything naughty on tour. Rather than hitting nightclubs when they are off stage they prefer to watch movies together, mostly because they all have a deep-rooted terror of falling ill. When they were growing up being sick was "like the world was ending" and that's something which has stuck with them over the years.
