Jay Z has reportedly agreed to be Kanye West’s best man.
The two rappers are close friends and even released 2011 album Watch the Throne together. Kanye is currently preparing to wed reality TV star Kim Kardashian in Paris on May 24, but there had been speculation that Jay Z and his wife Beyoncé Knowles wouldn’t be in attendance. They were said to be uncomfortable with the thought of being filmed for Kim’s reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Last week Kim announced the cameras won’t be capturing the nuptials, apparently causing Jay Z to have a change of heart.
“The best news came when Jay sent a gift to Kanye with an inscription referring to Jay Z as the rapper’s ‘Best Man.’ The gift was a gold-plated, diamond-encrusted flask, delivered with a $10,000 bottle of scotch, for Kanye to have for his wedding day,” an insider told RadarOnline.com.
It was previously claimed that Jay Z and Beyoncé were planning to pay £100,000 for a yacht for the newlyweds to use on their honeymoon, with the rapper also organising a lavish bachelor party for Kanye at his New York City club 40/40.
However, discovering his pal will be there to support him on his big day is said to have been the best gift possible for Kanye.
“Kanye was almost jumping up and down, he was so excited. He was running around Kris [Jenner, Kim’s mom’s] house to find Kim saying, ‘Baby, look! Look! Jay and B are coming!’ Kanye has been begging Jay to reconsider his decision not to come to the wedding, an even more devastating decision that left Kanye groomsman-less when he declined being his best man during the televised nuptials,” the source explained.
Initially it’s thought Kim was hoping to have the wedding filmed, just as her short-lived nuptials to Kris Humphries were in 2011. However, after several of her and Kanye’s friends explained they felt discomfort about being caught on camera they had a rethink.
The couple have tried not to appear in the limelight as much since their daughter North was born last June, and they apparently used that as leverage when discussing their wishes with the E! network. Eventually an agreement was put in place which sees both sides happy.
“E! understood in the end, because Kanye has been a trooper since joining the Kardashian clan. They are afraid of pi*sing him off! They will now film before and after the ceremony but not during,” the insider explained.
“Both Jay and Beyoncé are refusing to participate in any filming, so E! will get to air some wedding photos, but none with them in it.”
