Shakira can’t wait to work with Gwen Stefani because she’s a “true artist”.

The Hips Don’t Lie star is thrilled Gwen has signed on for the US version of reality singing competition The Voice, and can’t wait for her to get started.

According to Shakira, the Hollaback Girl singer can more than hold her own.

“I think she’s gonna be terrific as coach. She’s just a cool gal and she’s very smart and she’s a true artist,” she told Access Hollywood of Gwen. “I think that chair is going to be with the right person.”

New judge Pharrell is also excited about working with the no Doubt star. The Happy singer is honoured to be on the panel with his fellow Orange County native.

“Gwen is like the best of the best. If she’s doing it, I’m doing it!” he said.

Gwen confirmed the news earlier this week via Instagram by posting a photo of her hand holding a microphone with the “V” symbol for The Voice.

“Its true! @nbcthevoice,” she captioned the image (sic).

Both Pharrell and Gwen will be performing at the May 5 live telecast premiere of season 7, with Gwen singing Hollaback Girl and Pharrell performing Come Get It Bae.

Gwen’s deal is reportedly for one season, with Christina Aguilera expected to return to the hit singing competition for season eight. Christina is expecting a baby with fiancé Matt Rutler, and wanted to take a break to concentrate on her family.

“So excited to have you join #TheVoice squad @GwenStefani,” the singer tweeted. “Welcome to our crazy fam! Kisses- xoxo #blondesdoitbest.”
