Charlie Simpson today announces his second solo album ‘Long Road Home’ to be released on July 14th.

The anticipated follow up album to his debut solo offering ‘Young Pilgrim’ which went straight into the Top Ten in 2011. Charlie has also revealed he will play his largest headline show to date at the 3000 capacity Roundhouse in London on October 14th with tickets available from Friday 2nd May at 9 am - http://bit.ly/1mD4Pdb

‘Long Road Home’ is an exquisite collection of self-penned refreshing confessionals, Charlie’s distinctive and smoky vocals combined with the raw acoustic delivery of instrumentation - piano, drums and guitars - makes for a intimate and passionate anthology. The first track taken from the album is ‘Winter Hymns’ which is available to download on pre-ordering the album from Charlie’s webstore & iTunes.

After taking some time off in 2012, Charlie was revitalised. “I came back home pretty drunk one night and I started recording this song. I don’t really remember it,” he admits. “But I woke up in the morning and was like, wow, that’s really good.” The song was Emily, an acoustic, high-harmony love-letter that touches the soul. “And that slowly eased me back into it.” He wrote eight songs, then went into Reel World Studios near Bath with his dream producer Steve Osborne. The songs Winter Hymns (Nick Drake-like simplicity, intimacy and strings-led beauty) and Blood (anthemic, pounding, impassioned) are ear-tingling examples of the feeling, the sensation, that Charlie pursued with relish after suffering a spell of writers block following the penning of ‘Young Pilgrim’, “it was almost like I’d just thrown everything out and spilled my guts for that first solo record”.

“This was the hardest record I’ve ever had to make, no question,” he admits. “There were points where I was like, am I going end up with an album that I really love here? And that makes it feel all the sweeter now that I’ve come out with something I’m proud of. I love the album more because of all that. I feel like it was an album I had to fight for.”
To preview the release of ‘Long Road Home’ Charlie will be playing a handful of intimate sold out shows across the country in May, as well as playing at the Roundhouse on October 14th.
