Beautiful: The Carole King Musical was nominated for seven Tony Awards on Tuesday including Best Musical, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress.

Beautiful was made with the blessing of King who originally chose not to see the show, claiming she didn’t need to relive those years.

Carole eventually relented and is now a fan of the show. According to sources, she will attend the Tonys on June 8.

The nominations:

Best Musical
Best Book of a Musical – Douglas McGrath
Best Performance by a Leading Actress – Jessie Mueller
Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role – Jarrod Spector
Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role – Anika Larsen
Best Sound Design For a Musical – Brian Ronan
Best Orchestrations – Steve Sidwell

Mueller plays King, Spector plays Barry Mann and Larsen plays Cynthia Weil.

Also nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress was Mary Bridget Davies for playing Janis Joplin in A Night With Janis. While deserved, the nomination came as a surprise to most insiders as the show closed in February and had an off-Broadway run recently cancelled.
