Lily Allen launched her comeback because she missed “free clothes and posh restaurants”.
The British pop star is back with her new album Sheezus, which comes several years after she announced she was quitting music. The mother-of-two confesses that life at home didn’t come with the same benefits she received as a chart-topping singer.
“I wasn’t good at staying home all day, it didn’t suit me,” Lily told British magazine Glamour. “I’m creative, it’s just who I am… I missed the positive feedback about my music from my fans.
“I missed the rush of performing. I missed the free clothes and handbags and the good tables in posh restaurants. I did!”
The Hard Out Here singer was afraid of how the transition from her home life to her singing career would affect her family. She and her husband Sam Cooper share two daughters, two-year-old Ethel and Marnie, 15 months.
“I was really worried about working and the pressure it was going to put us under, and it’s actually made him more protective and more loving and caring. Here’s there for me,” she said.
“It was a tough decision to make, a scary adjustment, and for the children. But my relationship with my husband is as strong as it’s ever been. It’s lovely to come home to.”
Lily added that she wouldn’t want her two daughters to follow her footsteps. She hopes to show the tots that anything is possible, but that happiness is key.
“If you come from a dysfunctional family like I came from, it’s pretty straightforward, that kind of dreaming…. My parents weren’t around much when I was a kid, so that’s what you want for your kids, not to have that environment,” she explained.
