Pioneering Chicago DJ Rashad Harden has been found dead at his home at the age of 34.

The body of Rashad Harden was discovered on Saturday afternoon in an apartment on West 21st Street in Chicago, police said.

Harden died of a suspected drug overdose. Police discovered drugs and equipment near the body. Harden was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:50pm Chicago time.

Harden’s death comes in the same month and city where another DJ pioneer Frankie Knuckles died just weeks ago. The two were unconnected.

DJ Harden expanded his audience with the release of his fifth album ‘Double Cup’ last year. Rolling Stone ranked the album eighth in its list of Best Dance Albums of 2013.

Rashad was days away from releasing his next EP.
