Anna Kendrick doesn’t think Pharrell Williams’ trademark hat is as big as people think it is.

The Pitch Perfect actress met the Happy singer at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, where they presented the Best New Artist gong together. It was the first time Pharrell sported his oversized fedora and it took social media by storm.

However the furore seemed to pass 28-year-old Anna by.

“I swear on my life, I didn’t even register the hat, I think in person it just doesn’t seem that big!” she said during an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday. “We met before and we did the whole thing together, and I like, looked on Twitter and everyone was talking about it. I think that Pharrell is like looking in the mirror being like, 'Guys, it’s not – no I'm telling you, it's not that big.' ”

The hat was created by British designer Vivienne Westwood, and Pharrell went on to wear it on numerous occasions, including during his performance at the Academy Awards. Seth joked the hat was an optical illusion and looked bigger the further you got away from it, which led Anna to share a joke a friend made about her on the night.

“I was telling my friend like, in person I didn’t even notice it,” the 5’1” star added. “And my friend was like, ‘Maybe because you’re so short you only saw the rim?’ As though that’s how sight works!”

Anna also recalled her horror at John Travolta’s faux pas at the Oscars. The Pulp Fiction star infamously mispronounced Broadway star Idina Menzel’s name as “Adela Dazeem”.

“I think everyone individually thought, ‘Oh, did I just have a mini stroke at the Oscars?’” she joked.
