Rita Ora's tattoo is based on a need to understand men.

The singer covers ELLE UK's May issue, on which she appears topless. It's a perfect opportunity to show off the new tattoo on her ribcage and the 23-year-old explained the motivation behind her inking. The bodyart consists of a semi-naked woman, clutching her breast as she smells a flower.

"It’s based on an original piece by Alberto Vargas, who was an incredible illustrator in the 1930s. He was one of the creators of the pin-up image. That’s our build, our power," she revealed to elleuk.com. "That’s why I was obsessed with it; learning what men don’t understand about women and what women don’t understand about men. I was obsessed with the painting a long time ago, and then I got it done six months ago.

"I just love pretty things, whether it is art, a song or a pair of shoes."

Rita is currently promoting her new track I Will Never Let You Down. It's a catchy love song, which she produced with the help of her Scottish DJ boyfriend Calvin Harris.

"No, no I can't," she laughed, when BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw asked if she can concentrate in the studio with Calvin.

"Do you know, funny story, I was actually again a bit nervous, because he's never seen me in work mode. I was like, 'What if I riff a bit bad?' But literally just ten minutes in he was so blunt, I think it's the Scottish-ness in him, he was just like 'no' etc and it happened so quick. It was a very good experience.

"It's about having fun... and 'cause I take everything so seriously, I'm always a bit like work, work. He's like, you really need to just enjoy it. And I agree, so I'm just enjoying it right now. And I'm happy we kinda did it together. It's a nice little feeling for me, it makes it personal."

Yesterday the pretty star celebrated her new music by letting off balloons emblazoned with her name in London. She was also spotted rocking a SpongeBob SquarePants jumper dress by Moschino with matching shoes as she strolled through the UK capital.
