If there’s one thing Ja Rule hasn’t been doing in the last few years it’s Livin’ It Up. Unless you count two years in prison for illegal gun possession and tax evasion as Livin’ It Up. Which we’re sure you don’t.

We don’t think prison food has ever been described as the rapper’s hit single from 2001.

It’s a far cry from the jet-skis, champagne, and beautiful women from his music videos, with the only thing close to beautiful women was the cell-mate he was rumoured to have had an affair with.

Thug Lovin’.

This was quickly denied on the New Yorker’s Twitter feed and since then he has been back in the studio and towards the end of 2013 announced his return as a solo artist with Fresh Out Da Pen, and he seems to have picked up from where he left off.

And it isn’t just music Ja Rule has thrown himself into since being confined for so long. He’s got his eyes firmly set on a number of projects. The 38-year-old has always been at the height of social activity with him friends with the likes of Ashanti, and Full Tilt Poker designer Phil Ivey, and will be starring in his own reality TV show Follow The Rules.

Following a similar format to Run’s House, the show will show the daily life of his children, wife Aisha, and himself as he prepares to release his new album Genius Loves Company.

But his screentime doesn’t on there. The singer/reality star/ex-con is also making a return to Hollywood. He famously appeared in The Fast and the Furious back in 2004 but took his first lead in I’m In Love With A Church Girl with Stephen Baldwin and Michael Madsen.

It’s no surprise with his schedule that the rapper has yet to go on tour since his imprisonment, but with a new album due in the near future, his return could be imminent.

It seems incredible that a man who only found freedom less than a year ago can have so much going on. Acting, singing, and writing his memoirs to be released in June, but Ja Rule seems to have done that. He’s gone from hero to zero, yet there’s still something remarkably interesting about the 38-year-old. And come the end of the year when his life is opened up more, we may not be able to take our eyes of him.
