Kurt Cobain’s demise is not being reinvestigated by police, authorities have confirmed.
Fans are gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Nirvana rocker’s passing next month.
And although KIRO 7 TV reported Thursday the King County Sheriff’s Office in Seattle has reopened Kurt’s death case, apparently this has not taken place.
“Despite an erroneous news report, we have not ‘reopened’ the investigation into the suicide of Kurt Cobain,” the Seattle Police Department posted on its official Twitter account shortly after reports of the alleged reinquiry emerged.
But authorities did confirm investigators recently took an interest in details surrounding the beloved rock star’s demise.
“Our detective reviewed the case file anticipating questions surrounding the closed Cobain case as the 20 yr anniversary approaches,” the department tweeted.
Kurt’s body was found in his home near Lake Washington, Seattle on April 5, 1994. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and the star was 27 years old when he died.
The coroner’s office concluded Kurt had injected a lethal dose of heroin before his passing and a suspected suicide note was also found at the scene.
According to KIRO 7, a Seattle police department spokesperson revealed last year the department gets at least one request per week to reopen the investigation.
Before he passed, Kurt was married to Hole musician Courtney Love.
He is survived by his daughter with Courtney, 21-year-old Frances Bean.
