Mick Jagger’s spokesperson has slammed the “horrible” rumours he split from L’Wren Scott shortly before her apparent suicide.

The 70-year-old Rolling Stones frontman had dated the model and fashion designer since 2001 and was in Australia with his band when he got the news on Monday.

The New York Post ran with a story indicating the couple had been on the rocks before she was discovered lifeless in her New York apartment by her assistant. They also cited a law enforcement source that described L’Wren as Mick’s “former” girlfriend, as well as rumours that she had confided about the end of their romance to a friend.

But a representative for the star blasted editors at the newspaper in a scathing comment Monday evening.

“The story in the New York Post re a split between Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott is 100 per cent untrue,” the spokesperson said.

“There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick.”

Mick’s spokesperson said earlier in the day the rocker was “shocked and devastated” by news of L’Wren’s sudden death.

Just Jared reports it’s likely the Stones’ tour in Australia will be cancelled as a result.

L’Wren’s death has meanwhile caused shockwaves through the fashion industry, with many speaking out about their grief at her untimely passing.

As a designer, she worked with a number of celebrities, including Nicole Kidman, Michelle Obama, Angelina Jolie and Madonna.

Mick’s ex-wife, Bianca Jagger, was among those who spoke about the tragedy Monday.

“Heartbroken to learn of the loss of the lovely and talented L'Wren Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May she rest in peace,” she tweeted.
