Jared Leto thinks there is "no greater feeling" than being chased by police and getting away.

The 42-year-old star is in the running for the best supporting actor Academy Award this year thanks to his role as transgender Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club. He also fronts band 30 Seconds to Mars and constantly reminds himself how lucky he is because things could have been very different.

"Probably as a kid," he told Q magazine, when asked when he last broke the law. "My brother and I were from the wrong side of the tracks and had we not found creativity we would either be in prison or dead. But we didn't think about things being illegal or not. Drugs, whatever, it was only bad if you got caught. We got caught plenty but I tell you there's no feeling greater than getting away with it. Especially if the cops are actually running after you and you get away."

Jared is known for his good looks and has been linked to a string of women this awards season, among them Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Lupita Nyong'o.

He was quizzed on the last time he wished he wasn't as hot, but joked it was a trick question as there was no way to answer without sounding like "a conceited p***k".

Jared did reassure men everywhere that even he isn't always a hit with the ladies though.

"Well you don't wanna win every time. You wanna know there's something out there that's unattainable. I don't always hit a home run, put it that way," he explained.

Dallas Buyers Club represents Jared's return to acting following an almost five-year hiatus. During that time he's been focusing on his band, including playing 309 shows in just over two years.

Music has always been one of the star's great loves and has led to some interesting experiences too.

"Oooh. Last time I was naked outdoors... Coachella [music festival in California], last year," he said. "I woke up in a hotel in the desert, middle of the night, alone, a sliding glass door opened for cool air. So I walked out, into the middle of the dessert. Buck naked. Free. If you don't feel free naked you're never gonna feel free."
