Mariah Carey had to play the hero on her first Valentine’s Day with Nick Cannon.

The couple have been married since 2008 and their initial February 14 as man and wife literally went up in flames.

Mariah says her romantic night in with Nick at a Los Angeles hotel room surrounded by candlelight turned terrifying within seconds.

"We'd gotten each other like all these roses and balloons, and we had pictures of our first year together ... the whole room was just Valentine's galore," she recalled on MTV First.

"As we're looking at the pictures, there's candles everywhere — because I had requested candles — so one of the pictures sparked and lit the drapery."

As the drapes were burning, no one reached for the phone to dial emergency services.

Mariah took it upon herself to ensure she and her man were safe from harm.

"Me, I go into emergency mode," she detailed while acting the hectic scene out with her body.

"I take the roses out of the thing, take the vase, pour the water, douse the fire. Nick just looks like this [jaws drop], and he just goes, 'You're really good in an emergency situation.' I just go, 'That's how I've had to be.' "

Earlier this week Mariah shared her and Nick’s plans for this year’s holiday during New York’s Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club show.

The songstress joked she doesn’t even expect her famously workaholic husband to be around. But his physical presence on the day doesn’t matter, as he expresses his feelings in other ways.

"I have to say Nick is very festive as well. I give him credit where credit's due; flowers, we celebrate our anniversary every month of the year," she explained.

The 43-year-old singer shares two-year-old fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe with Nick.
