One Direction could be set for a stint on Glee.

Two of the British boyband's hits have already been covered on the musical show about a group of high school kids who love performing.

Matthew Morrison plays teacher Will Schuester on the programme and would love to have Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan sing on Glee.

"We have been so fortunate to have some great cameos, and to have One Direction on would be great for the show," he told UK newspaper Daily Star.

"They are not much older than High School age so we could have them as students. And I am sure the younger female cast members wouldn't object to their presence either."

The boys rose to fame when they appeared on the 2010 edition of The X Factor UK.

With Simon Cowell behind them they've hit number one spots all over the world and Matthew and his co-star Jane Lynch, who plays mean sports teacher Sue Sylvester, wouldn't object to the music mogul making a special appearance too.

"Both my and Jane Lynch's dream cameo is Simon Cowell. So maybe the boys could bring their manager," he grinned.

"It would make great TV seeing Sue Sylvester and Simon Cowell go head to head."

So far, Glee has covered One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful and more recent hit Live While We're Young.

Back in 2012, when the first track was featured, Matthew wasn't even sure who the band were.

"I remember when the show covered What Makes You Beautiful I had only just heard of One Direction," he confessed.

"But since then they have pretty much gone on to take over the world!"

Famous stars who have appeared on Glee include Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow.
