Hilary Duff is thanking fans for their support amid news of her marital separation.

The actress and her hockey-playing husband Mike Comrie have called it quits after three years of marriage, and confirmed the news on Friday.

According to Hilary, the pair are still good friends and are helping each other get through what is a very difficult time for them both.

"Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together," she tweeted.

Hilary and Mike have one child together - son Luca Cruz Comrie, who turns two in March.

A representative for the actress has made it clear the split is amicable and the couple will continue to be in each other's lives.

"Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie have mutually decided to an amicable separation. They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time," read the statement to People magazine.

Hilary and Mike appear to be serious about co-parenting Luca, and seemed upbeat on a recent family trip to the park. The couple also took the toddler on his first trip to Disneyland in December.
