Beck has recorded a John Lennon cover for a compilation album of artists singing their favourite songs.

Beck chose ‘Love’ by John Lennon.

Lennon recorded the song for his 1970 ‘John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band’ album but the only two musicians on the recording were John Lennon on vocals and acoustic guitar and producer Phil Spector on piano.

‘Love’ was first covered by 60s pop group The Letterman in 1971. It reached no. 48 on the USA chart for them. The second person to cover the song was Barbra Streisand that same year for her album ‘Barbra Joan Streisand’. She also covered Lennon’s ‘Mother’ on the same album. It reached no. 11 on the Billboard chart.

Beck will release his next studio album in February. It was partly recorded at Jack White’s Third Man Records studio in Nashville.

Beck’s cover of Lennon’s ‘Love’ will appear on the ‘Sweetheart 2014’ album to be released on Valentine’s Day.
