Katy Perry has been named as 2013’s top Female Icon.

The 29-year-old Roar singer received the Bizarre Award from British newspaper The Sun and she is excited about the acknowledgment.

Although she is honoured, Katy says empowering her female fans is one of her greatest professional incentives.

“I don’t consider myself a role model I consider myself an inspiration most definitely,” she revealed in a video interview with the publication.

“I think all of us ladies are just rough pop stars, whatever you want to call it, and so I think I want people to see the hard work I put into everything and the integrity as the through-thread of everything I do. And I really appreciate that they’re inspired by the anthems and get that kind of encouragement or find their inner strength in my songs. I love that I can inspire people through my songs.”

Other award winners include Idris Elba for Best Actor and electronic music duo Disclosure received a Best Album gong for their LP Settle.

Katy thinks Disclosure deserves all the honour in the world, as the group is her favourite UK act at the moment.

“Disclosure were a great choice. I love them so much,” she gushed.

“It’s really new and fresh what they’ve done. I love their album, I work out to it — lots. It’s in top three of the records I work out to.”

Katy says she just wants to rest over the holiday season.

But she confesses being with loved ones may make that goal a bit difficult to accomplish.

“I’m wishing for peace and rest but I don’t know how that is going to exist with all my family under the same roof,” she laughed.
