Nirvana, Kiss and Hall & Oates are some of the names announced for the 2014 inductions for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced six artists who have been selected for induction through the voting process and three more that through selections by special committees.

Selected by the 700+ voters

Cat Stevens
Hall and Oates
Nirvana
KISS
Linda Ronstadt
Peter Gabriel

Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, has waited the longest for selection. He has been eligible since 1991, 25 years after his first recording, and was previously nominated in 2006.

KISS is the only other inductee to be previously nominated (in 2010). Of the remaining four, Ronstadt had been eligible since 1994 but never nominated, Hall and Oates since 1997 and Gabriel since 2002 while Nirvana was in their first year of eligibility.

Hall & Oates manager Jonathan Wolfson said “Both Daryl and John are pleased to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And, we will be participating in the ceremony at the Barclays on April 10th. Without the efforts of our fans, this would not have happened.”

Peter Gabriel is being inducted for the second time after being honored in 2002 as a member of Genesis.

Ten other artists were nominated but did not make the cut, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band (third nomination), Chic (eighth), Deep Purple (second), LL Cool J (third), Meters (third), N.W.A. (second) and four first time nominees, the Replacements, Link Wray, Yes and the Zombies.

Three other individuals and groups will also be inducted through the selection of special committees. Ahmet Ertegun Lifetime Achievement awards will go to Beatles manager Brian Epstein and Rolling Stones manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham. The Ertegun award goes to non-performers.

The Award of Musical Excellence, formerly known as the Sideman category, goes to Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band.

The induction ceremony will be held on April 10 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and will be open to the public. The ceremony will be broadcast later on HBO.
