Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong gets into acting

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day will star opposite Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester in Like Sunday, Like Rain.

Armstrong plays Meester’s boyfriend in the film that revolves around a 12-year-old music prodigy. The film, which is currently shooting in New York, was written and is being directed by Frank Whaley. Whaley’s acting roles including Field of Dreams and Pulp Fiction while he has directed the films Joe the King, The Jimmy Show and New York City Serenade.

Along with Armstrong and Meester, who starred in TV’s Gossip Girl, the film also stars Debra Messing and Julian Shatkin as the boy.

Armstrong’s previous acting was limited to brief appearances in films such as Riding in Cars With Boys and This is 40 along with TV shows King of the Hill and Nurse Jackie.
