Ed Sheeran admits he and Ellie Goulding weren’t “just friends”.
The British singers sparked romance rumours after they were spotted holding hands on camera at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards.
And although he hasn’t directly confirmed they were together at the time, Ed has alluded to the true nature of their connection.
“Normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends,” Ed told American radio station Click 98.9.
Although Ed, 22, claims he and Ellie are no longer an item, he still holds the 26-year-old songstress in high regard.
"It was going on. And now it's not,” he revealed.
"She's a really cool girl and she's very talented. She's had a number one single for three weeks in England now. It's all going well."
Ed has been attached to high-profile blondes all year.
At one point it was speculated he and good friend Taylor Swift were together while he was the opening act on her Red concert tour.
A recent article even claimed he is a “studly womaniser”, but the star laughs off that title.
"The whole 'studly womaniser' thing, I mean, I quite enjoy the title - it's just not very accurate,” he told Click.
"If you can find a picture of me and Taylor holding hands, you won't be able to, because it doesn't exist. That's just people making assumptions because I was on tour with her."
