Harry Styles "likes a joke" so was fine with Taylor Swift poking fun at him recently.

The American songstress picked up the Best Female Video MTV Video Music Award on Sunday for her track I Knew You Were Trouble. The track is widely said to be about Harry, who she enjoyed a brief romance towards the end of last year.

When receiving the prize in New York, Taylor thanked the "person who inspired" the song, adding he knows who he is. Harry was sitting in the audience, but insists he wasn't embarrassed.

"I like a joke as much as the next guy, so it's all good," he insisted to Extra.

Although Harry appeared awkward as Taylor made her speech, his bandmates Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson looked on with glee.

It seems the curly-haired singer and Taylor later came to some kind of agreement, as they posed for a photo with Ed Sheeran at an after-party hosted by Robin Thicke.

"Yeah, I went for a drink with Ed… and some friends. It was good," Harry giggled.

Harry and Taylor's encounter wasn't the only talking point at the annual ceremony. Miley Cyrus caused outrage with her sexually-charged performance, which saw her grinding on Robin wearing just a nude bikini.

Parents' groups have slammed her provocative routine, while Robin's mother even spoke out saying it was in poor taste.

Harry has joked that he doesn't see what all the fuss is about.

"I thought it was vanilla. I would feel comfortable watching it with my grandma," he laughed.

Louis added: “I'm just glad I didn't bring my little sisters because, actually, I did plan to bring them."
