Ed Sheeran finds downtime "weird".

The 22-year-old is currently touring with US country music star Taylor Swift.

When he's not performing, the redheaded singer struggles to relax.

"I find it weird to have downtime," Ed confessed to Teen Vogue. "Before I was a musician, my downtime was music so now I'm like, 'What do I do with my time off?' My job is my hobby and my hobby is my job."

The folk-pop rapper's passion for music started at a young age.

He named which inspirational figures helped shape his taste in tunes today.

"Artists I listened to when I was growing up, that my dad got me into, were Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and The Beatles. Then I got into Eminem at an early age and Damien Rice," he shared. "Now I listen to hip-hop mostly; I just got the A$AP Rocky album and Kendrick Lamar."

Ed's debut studio album + has been certified five times platinum in the UK since its release in 2011.

Despite not being as well known in America, the amount of paparazzi attention he receives is scary.

"Fame is different in the US to UK. In the UK I've gone five times platinum and never once been bothered by paparazzi. But over here in the US it's more frantic, so that's a bit different," he shared.

"But my fans are always the same. They always start off with a lot of screaming, then they calm down a bit!"
