Jennifer Lopez believes all “family equals love” despite their makeup.

The 43-year-old mother-of-two is preparing to premiere her new US TV drama The Fosters.

Jennifer produced the show under her Nuyorican Productions banner and will not star in it.

She insists the groundbreaking show covers “very basic” values although many might consider the subject matter controversial.

“The Fosters is about a lesbian couple raising a multi-ethnic family... it's very reflective of families today. Family equals love,” Jennifer told Extra.

“Gay marriage is becoming legal now in so many places, and there's a controversy surrounding it, but at the end of the day, it does exist. To keep pretending that it doesn't is really, I feel, is irresponsible because there are children that do grow up in these families… you want them to know that as long as they are surrounded by love - that’s the most important thing.”

Jennifer shares five-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Although she is incredibly famous, superstar Jennifer enjoys partaking in ordinary tasks with her family.

“My son loves to go to the supermarket. He says, ‘Mommy when are you going to take me to the supermarket?’” she gushed.

“I'm a normal person, see! There is no normal, that's the moral to this story, to this series, to everything.”

The Fosters will debut on America’s ABC Family network in early June.
