P. Diddy is the latest victim in a “celebrity swatting” phenomenon that has recently swept Hollywood.
TMZ reports over a dozen police vehicles and two helicopters rushed to the hip hop mogul’s Los Angeles home Wednesday morning resultant of a prank call.
A law enforcement insider informed the website authorities were told over the phone that someone had been shot inside of Diddy’s residence.
When they arrived on the scene police quickly realised the call was a hoax.
Initially officials thought Steve Carell was the target and since Diddy is the funnyman’s neighbour, both homes were secured before cops left the scene.
The home of Miley Cyrus’ parents is located on the same block and they were victims of a swatting escapade last year.
Diddy marks the latest “celebrity swatting” incident, so named for bogus reports intended to lead SWAT teams to the homes of high-profile individuals.
Authorities take this crime seriously and will prosecute perpetrators to the full extent of the law.
A 12-year-old was arrested in December for prank calling 911 with similar reports targeting the homes of Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber.
Chris Brown, The Kardashian family, Tom Cruise, Paris Hilton, Clint Eastwood and Simon Cowell were also involved in swatting incidents in the past.
