Justin Bieber is reportedly struggling with his emotions because Selena Gomez is sending “mixed messages”.
The young stars dated for around two years, before ending their relationship over the Christmas holidays last year.
Since then, it seems Justin’s behaviour has become increasingly erratic after he was hit by drug allegations, collapsed on stage during a show and was accused of assaulting his neighbour and driving recklessly.
Selena is believed to have walked out on Justin while they were on holiday in Mexico, but the pair are now believed to be in contact daily.
The 19-year-old star is finding it hard to move on from the romance and there is speculation Selena isn’t making it any easier for him.
“Justin was torn apart when Selena pulled the plug on their relationship in December,” an insider told TMZ. “Justin feels tortured, because Selena has not made a clean break - far from it. We're told she is regularly calling him and sending him mixed messages, and it's been messing with his head.”
Sources close to the star claim he is acting out because he is suffering from his first serious heartbreak.
Selena has spoken out in public about her failed romance with Justin, joking she made the Baby singer cry. She has also declared she “really” loves being single again, while Justin has reportedly banned anyone around him from making negative comments about her.
Meanwhile, Justin has revealed that he surrounds himself with just a few trusted friends – including best pal, rapper Lil Twist - and close family members.
Despite his worldwide popularity, the star is reluctant to widen his social circle.
“Literally, my phone never rings. I only have, like, four people that I keep in contact with,” he told the new issue of Teen Vogue. “I don’t need a bunch of friends to make me happy. I just need the people close to me that I love, that’s all.
“They don’t see me as Justin Bieber, but just see me as Justin.”
The heartthrob also explained how he copes with people who dislike him.
Justin does his best to avoid reading negative comments, but jokingly encouraged his detractors to keep visiting certain websites to vent their feelings.
“My Twitter is really nice. I have so many fans that I rarely ever see a nasty Tweet. I don’t read YouTube comments because those can get you sad,” he added. “Every time a hater visits my YouTube page, I get, like, four cents. So tell the haters to keep hating, keep commenting, because I’m making money.”
