Beyonce was terrified ahead of the premiere of her new documentary.

The superstar singer hit the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City on Tuesday night to launch Life Is But a Dream. Beyoncé produced, co-directed and stars in the revealing documentary and told Oprah Winfrey that she was plagued by doubts when she woke up yesterday morning.

“I thought, ‘What did I do?’” she explained. “I’ve been anticipating this moment... this is huge for me… and I felt that it was time for people to see who I am. This is three years in the making.”

Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z didn’t accompany her to the premiere, so instead she graced the red carpet with Oprah.

The 31-year-old beauty looked stunning at the event, stepping out in a daring but elegant floor-length Elie Saab gown adorned with glittering sequins. A transparent panel showed off Beyoncé’s décolletage, but clever detailing ensured her modesty was protected.

She teamed the dress with nude stilettos and dazzling drop earrings, keeping her long honey-coloured hair straight and flowing.

Beyoncé revealed she felt inspired to make the documentary after becoming a mother to Blue Ivy in January last year.

“Once I saw my daughter, I knew that the end to this story, this documentary, was here and I was ready to tell the story,” she explained at the premiere. “After I gave birth, I felt like a new woman. I felt like mystique is something extremely important to me, but at some point it’s time, and I’m ready.”

The HBO tell-all give fans an intimate insight into Beyoncé’s career - including her split from her manager father Mathew Knowles - and her personal life. It also touches upon the devastating miscarriage she went through a few years ago and ends with the birth of her daughter.

Also attending the premiere was Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles and her sister Solange Knowles, as well as fashion stars Selita Ebanks and Tyson Beckford.
