Charli XCX (AKA 20-year old Herefordshire born Charli Aitchison) today unveils the video for her new single ‘You (Ha Ha Ha)’, set for release through Asylum Records on February 10th 2013.
Speaking about the video, directed by Ryan Andrews, Charli told Pitchfork: "We'd been heavily influenced by the world of Tumblr superstars and the quick click, pop-tastic world of the internet in my previous videos, so this time we decided to look elsewhere. We'd been watching a lot of grindhouse movies, mostly with strong female leads like The Pom Pom Girls and Coffy, and there seemed to be a bizarre cross over from that genre of cinema and today's world of pop. Shooting the video in a gun factory seemed like the perfect grindhouse setting for a kick ass, girl power story, with super pretty girls swapping the bullets for lipstick. Cute!"
Charli recently released her ‘Super Ultra’ mixtape, which included the track ‘Cloud Aura’, featuring Brooke Candy and produced by J£zus Million. 2012 saw 1.6 million YouTube views and 34k mixtape downloads and she has been busy touring the globe and supporting everyone from Coldplay (across 18 dates in UK/USA/Europe) to Santigold, Labrinth to Justice.
She was on the cover of UK style mag Notion as well as the cover of V magazine earlier this year, in a stunning shoot with Grimes and Sky Ferreira, and has just been confirmed to play this year’s South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin.
Charli XCX’s debut album is pencilled for Spring 2013.
