Justin Timberlake has hinted that he is set to release a new single later today.

The superstar singer-and-actor tweeted that his fans can expect to receive some exciting news about a new project he's been working on in the next few hours.

Rumours started that the pop star could have recorded a new song yesterday following a mysterious tweet by Justin hinting at a big reveal.

"Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9.01am PST..." Justin tweeted cryptically, followed by, "haha im laughin right now. i told y'all the storm is coming this year (sic)."

The new track rumoured for release this afternoon is thought to be a collaboration with Destiny's Child singer Beyoncé Knowles.

Music industry insiders have speculated that the duet will feature on an upcoming album release by one of the two artists.

Justin's rumoured new song is also thought to have been produced by Timbaland, with Beyoncé's partner and rap industry heavy weight Jay-Z also said to be involved.

The 31-year-old former N'SYNC member hasn't released an album in more than six years. Following the success of his 2006 record FutureSex/LoveSounds, Justin turned his attention to his acting career and has gone on to star in movies including The Social Network and Friends With Benefits.

His love of music has never gone away though, with the star penning a track in honour of his wife Jessica Biel and performing it at their wedding last year.
