Sir George Martin will receive the Award for Outstanding Contribution to U.K. Music from the Music Producers Guild at their annual ceremony, February 7, at the Cafe de Paris in London.
Martin’s career has spanned six decades, most notably producing the music of the Beatles, working on thirty number one hits and work that has sold over a billion copies.
Steve Levine, chairman of the Music Producers Guild, said “The Outstanding Contribution Award acknowledges those who have made a significant contribution over a long period of time to the success of the UK music recording industry, so we are thrilled that Sir George Martin has agreed to accept the Music Producers Guild’s highest honour. Many record producers around the world owe George a huge debt of gratitude, not just for his inspired production techniques, but also for his efforts to ensure that all producers rightfully receive a royalty for their work.”

Along with his work for the Beatles, Martin also produced such hits as Goldfinger (Shirley Bassey), Little Children (Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas), Ferry Cross the Mercy (Gerry & the Pacemakers) and Tin Man, Lonely People and Sister Golden Hair (all America).
