will.i.am has denied that making a Christmas single guarantees chart success.

The Black Eyed Peas star discussed whether making a good festive record can ensure an artist is played on the radio for years to come.

The rapper gave examples of some of his favourite seasonal songs that are not as widely known as the usual Mariah Carey or Wham! offerings.

"[If you write a good Christmas song is it guaranteed to be played on the radio for at least ten years?] Not necessarily," will claimed during a BBC Radio 1 interview. "Do you play the Jackson 5 one? No… Did you play the MC Hammer's Christmas ho ho ho ho, ho here comes Christmas one?"

will was interviewed on the radio show in connection with the promotion for his single Scream & Shout with Britney Spears. The star revealed more about how the collaboration came about.

"I was working with Britney on a thing for Tower Records so I asked her, 'Can we get together on a track?' she was like, 'Alright when do you want me to come by?' Then we did the song, and it was lame so then we wrote another song and it was good so we did it and had a good time," will laughed.
