Carly Rae Jepsen has described the "shocking" moment she discovered she had been nominated for two Grammy Awards.

The singer is up for song of the year, for her hit Call Me Maybe, and best pop vocal performance at the prestigious music industry event held next year.

The 27-year-old Canadian pop star's Grammy experience is set to be a family affair as her loved ones have been part of the process since she first discovered she was in the running for prizes.

"It was a really shocking moment when I found out I'd been nominated," Carly told BBC Newsbeat. "I got to share the moment with my family who were with me when I got the phone call about it."

Carly has early childhood memories of watching the Grammy Awards on TV with her family. The whole Jepsen clan will attend the event with her next year.

"I can remember when I was growing up being dressed up in my pyjamas and grabbing the popcorn to curl up and watch it and dreaming that maybe one day that could be me walking the red carpet or being in that audience or even getting to be part of that experience and share in with it," Carly gushed. "I've actually invited all my family to be there with me and share in the experience with me, so it will be special for all of us."

Carly's favourite part of watching awards shows on TV is checking out the outfits worn by the stars. She joked that the most exciting part of being nominated is planning her ensemble for the high-profile event.

"I've dreamed more about what I'd wear as I loved watching what the women wore, I remember sitting there with my step-mom Patti and we would look at all the dresses and judge them from one to ten out of ten, based on who had really nailed it," Carly laughed. "So I know she will be really picky about helping me choose my dress."

Carly thinks it will be harder to pick her outfit than plan a draft of a winner's speech. The songstress isn't expecting to triumph, but has vowed to have fun whatever happens.
