R. Kelly is plotting his Broadway debut.

The singer is working on a stage show based on his self-described hip hopera Trapped in the Closet.

He also plans to be in some of the performances.

“To transform it into a Broadway version, that’s what I’m working on,” he told the Associated Press at a screening for the latest chapter in the musical series.

The R&B star, whose full name is Robert Kelly, gave cinemagoers in New York City a sneak peek of the latest installment on Monday night.

The 23rd chapter of Trapped in the Closet will debut on America’s IFC channel on Friday.

Kelly did not offer further details about a possible Broadway adaptation.

The first chapter of Trapped in the Closet debuted in 2005 and became a hugely successful video opera narrating in song events that unfold after a one-night stand.

While he hopes to take the production to the stage, Kelly says he’s not taking the series too seriously.

“I’m just having a lot of fun. I don’t have a job, so I sit in the studio all day and think of stuff to do and this is just something stupid I’ve done that’s been successful for me,” he mused. “I’m having a lot of fun with it.”
