After their celebrated headline slot at T In The Park earlier this year, The Stone Roses are returning to Scotland for another huge show.
The reunited Madchester legends will be performing at Glasgow Green on June 15th 2013 – the scene of a 1990 gig considered among the very best of their career. Fans snapping up tickets to Stone Roses' concerts will also be able to catch two of Scotland's very best acts, Primal Scream and The View, along with rising Nottingham singer-songwriter Jake Bugg.
It'll be the second time the Roses have played in Scotland since their 2011 reunion, following their remarkable bill-topping turn at T In The Park festival earlier this year. The shows will be preceded by two huge dates south of the border, taking place at London's Finsbury Park on June 7th and 8th.
What The World's Been Waiting For
Until last year's famous press conference, fans had waited 15 long years to see their heroes up on the stage again. Following over a decade of rumours and denials from all four band members, a meeting at a family function saw singer Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire bury the hatchet, and by October the quartet were telling the world of their plans to hit the stage again.
Any doubts that the group could still cut it as a live act were blown away by three rapturously received hometown gigs at Heaton Park, along with a string of festival appearances around the world. All of which proved the legendary status the four-piece garnered in the late '80s was still very much intact.
Although the group formed in 1983, it would take them six years to release their self-titled debut album, a record that went on to provide the soundtrack to the Madchester movement. Widely considered among the best albums ever released, key tracks such as 'She Bangs The Drums' and 'I Wanna Be Adored' have become true indie anthems, loved by modern music fans now as much as they were by fans in the late '80s. Although the band's follow-up album, The Second Coming, would be mired in inter-band problems and delays that would ultimately contribute to the demise of the group in 1996, the Roses' legacy was assured by their era-defining debut.
