Beyoncé Knowles has pulled out of Clint Eastwood’s new film A Star Is Born.

The Crazy in Love singer was long rumoured to be playing the role made famous by Barbra Streisand in the 1976 version of the movie.

But the 31-year-old Dreamgirls star has been forced to pull out of the project due to scheduling conflicts, reports Variety.

Grammy-winning jazz singer Esperanza Spalding is reportedly being considered for the role.

A male lead has yet to be cast after Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio passed on the part, according to the trade publication. Bradley Cooper was most recently associated with the role.

The movie musical tells the story of a young hopeful who falls in love with a star whose popularity is waning, and then helps her get a foot in the music business door.

A Star Is Born was made for the big screen in 1937, 1954 and 1976, with Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand in the respective lead female roles.

The Clint Eastwood film does not yet have a firm start date.
