For the first time in the AMP compilation series Annie Mac has commissioned three exclusive tracks by three of the UK and Ireland’s hottest up and coming artists. First up was MMOTHS, the hugely talented Irishman, with 'Over You'. Second in line is the unstoppable force from Liverpool, Melé with 'Space Jam'.
At just 20 he is already recognised as a promising producer with a series of releases that have got both artists and critics hungry for more. Melé is capable of delivering on every level, from club music to deeper productions interspersed with hip-hop snares and grimey synths at techno tempo, it's Melé’s rhythmic inventiveness and virtuoso touches that really set him apart.
Setting a relentless pace with his own productions, he’s already released EPs on Sound Of Sumo and Mixpak, these and yet another release on Sinden's Grizzly label play testament to his prolific producing ability. As for remixes, he’s been working with the best, having been asked to rework tracks by the likes of Lianne La Havas and Elton John vs. Pnau to name a few.
“Melé is a product of Great Britain, he grew up surrounded by grime, garage, jungle and rave and his productions and crazy hi energy genre hopping DJ sets are a direct reflection of this,” Annie explains. “'Space Jam' is a 150 bpm arpeggiated trap masterpiece. It's a joyous record, but retains a real gutter element and a top line that seems to talk to you. It sounds like the future. I genuinely believe Melé’s is going to be explosive.”
