A mother cried after finding out that Taylor Swift wrote a song in tribute to her late son.

A mother cried upon hearing Taylor Swift had written a song in tribute to her late son.

Maya Thompson lost son Ronan to cancer last year and shared her experiences online, which Taylor, 22, was so moved by she wrote a touching track in tribute to the three-year-old.

Taylor debuted the song, simply titled 'Ronan', by performing it live during the 'Stand Up 2 Cancer' telethon on Friday night (07.09.12) in Los Angeles.

Maya, 33, from Arizona, has written about the experience, saying she was unaware her story had effected Taylor so much, until she received a surprise voice mail from the singer.

She wrote on her blog: "My calmness soon turned to complete and utter frozen shock when these words came out of her mouth. 'I wrote a song for Ronan,' she said.

"The tears started pouring down my cheeks as soon as I heard her say those words. But her words didn't stop there. Not only did she write a song for you, but she wanted to know if it would be alright to perform it on the nationally televised 'Stand Up 2 Cancer' show."

Maya continued to say that she was a "blubbering mess", and described Taylor as looking like an "angel" when she performed.
