Band leader Robert Smith said with their line up changing to include former David Bowie collaborator Reeves Gabrels, they are playing more of their upbeat tracks, but he could slip a few "epic" songs into the set depending how he feels just before they go on stage.
He told NME magazine: "Some of the songs we haven't played in a while will be back in the set. And generally the more sort of upbeat songs. I don't know whether we'll be doing any epics. I kind of doubt it, although you never know. A few beers and I shall probably change the set list five minutes before we go on."
Robert, 53, also said he's looking forward to checking out new music at the festival but anyone who doesn't want to watch his band's headline set must be a "fool."
He added: "I'm sure that shall come away from it having seen acts that I would never have dreamed of listening to and probably will be raving about in six month's time. I think there's nothing to stop you having a wonderful weekend even if you don't like The Cure, which I'm sure there will be people there that won't. They're fools, but what can you do?"
Reading and Leeds festivals start on Friday (24.08.12), and will see main stage headlining performances from The Cure, Foo Fighters and Kasabian.
