Nick Jonas would be a great judge on American Idol because he is “direct” and has “dry humour”, says his brother.

The Jonas Brothers star is reportedly in final negotiations to join the panel of the popular talent show. Nick’s older sibling Kevin is confident the singer-and-actor would be honest with wannabe musicians, and not take himself too seriously.

"Well rumours are true; he's being considered for a judge and if he was to be a judge on that show, he would do an incredible job,” Kevin told MTV News. “I feel like Nick can be, he'll probably be very direct sometimes, which is good — which I think a lot of people need sometimes tough love. And his dry humour will come across really well.

“[But at the same time he'd be honest; he'd be encouraging. He'd never give a diss without telling him how they could fix it."

Kevin added that 19-year-old Nick is mature enough for the responsibility of being an American Idol judge. Since shooting to fame in the Jonas Brothers, he has also starred in the Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and appeared in US TV show Smash.

Kevin believes that Nick’s vast experience in the entertainment industry would be helpful to the contestants.

“I really hope he gets the job. And I hope they choose Nick,” he added.

"I think he would bring insight to it, unlike a lot of people. At his age, he's been able to accomplish so much and be able to do so many kinds of things, whether it was Broadway, whether it was like pop music, whether it was producing for other artists. Like he's done it mostly all, so I think he can have his feet planted on the ground to be a good judge."

Mariah Carey has joined Randy Jackson on the panel, with Nick, P. Diddy and N.E.R.D. rapper Pharrell Williams all said to be in the running for the final seat.
