Beth Ditto says Los Angeles is her "own personal idea of hell", because people there are wannabes.
The Gossip singer resides in Portland, Oregon, where she feels more accepted. Beth - who is famed for her eccentric manner - prefers the laidback vibe of the city.
"[Los Angeles] is my own personal idea of hell. It's hot all the time, and everyone's trying to be famous. It's kind of crazy," she revealed to the Kyle and Jackie O radio show.
"I can't appreciate it. Where I live there's a lot of gays and dykes. I can say that because I am one."
Beth went on to reveal her taste in women. The star is known for her love of make-up and outlandish ensembles and insists she has to look the most feminine in a relationship.
"I want my girls to look like boys. There's only one girl who wears the lipstick in this relationship and that's me," she teased.
Gossip's fifth album A Joyful Noise was released earlier this year. Beth loves performing with the group, but has rubbished claims festivals are the most exhilarating place to get on stage.
"I don't know who told you that, but they are liars. There's always that fear that no-one is going to come see you at festivals," she said.
